Professional Services

Radiation Management Plans (RMP)

The first step towards good Radiation Safety Practices when moving into the Uranium mining and Exploration arena is to develop and set into place the company's Radiation Management Plan. MRSA will help your company put into place your RMP.

Your RMP will cover areas such as:

  • Company and site details
  • Personnel radiation monitoring
  • Storage and Disposal of radioactive material
  • Decontamination of equipment
  • Training of Personnel and Reporting to regulators and
  • Site radiological rehabilitation.

An RMP consultation will include:

  • Overview of legal aspects and requirements of a Radiation management Plan
  • Information on monitoring procedures and guidelines
  • (After generation of RMP) Implementation of your projects RMP

After your RMP consultation MRSA will generate an RMP for each project that you have that is becoming active.

Site Surveys and Audits

Radiation Surveys - Environmental, Occupational, General

MRSA offers complete radiological survey and assessment services. We cover all areas including environmental baselines and occupational exposure levels.

MRSA provide complete support for your radiation monitoring requirements. We cover gamma surveys, airborne radionuclides (dust and gas), radionuclides in water, surface contamination and biota/reference persons assessment. This includes determining your monitoring requirements, design of the monitoring plan and then assistance with implementation or carrying out the complete baseline monitoring program. MRSA then provide assistance with your reporting to regulators and also assistance with ongoing monitoring of projects.

Radiation Safety Training

MRSA provide radiation safety courses that include (select the course you want for more details):

Site Auditing of Radiation Safety Practices

MRSA have field experts to conduct six-monthly Radiation Safety Audits of your site. When you have set up your Radiation Management Plan with MRSA, your first six monthly audit will include a comprehensive review of your RMP.

Design of safety systems - safety manuals, procedures, signage etc
  • Design of Radiation Management Plans
  • Engineered safety systems
  • Transport and packaging of materials
  • Documentation systems
  • Safety manuals
  • Regulatory negotiation assistance and advice

Monitor Calibration, Service and Repair

Radiation Professionals provide a wide variety of services to fulfil your dosimetry and general radiation monitoring requirements. This includes servicing and repair of equipment plus calibration of all radiation monitoring equipment. At Radiation Professionals we provide an obligation free equipment check prior to service or calibration, any faulty equipment will be returned free of charge or can be repaired if requested.

Survey and Contamination Instruments
Calibration services are available for all types of gamma, x-ray, beta, alpha and contamination monitoring equipment.

Survey Instruments

Survey instruments are calibrated in a 137Cs beam that is traceable to the Australian National Standard of Exposure and undergo thorough electronic testing where applicable. A current Regulation 13 certificate is held for the calibration sources. A large range of survey monitors can be calibrated, encompassing various detector types, including ionisation chambers (e.g. Mini-Instruments "Smart Ion"), energy-compensated GM tubes (e.g. Radix 2001, Automess 6150 AD6) and NaI detectors (e.g. Exploranium GR-135).

Contamination Monitors

The response of contamination monitors is tested with wide area reference alpha and beta sources. Radiation Professionals has a current Regulation 21 certificate issued by the National Standards Commission of Australia. The response to standard gamma sources and the relative response to gamma-radiation are also evaluated where applicable. The types of contamination monitors tested include those with thin-window GM tubes (e.g. Mini-Instruments Series 900 and associated probes, RAM GENE (internal detector), Health Physics Instruments CYPHER 5000 and GM pancake probe), and dual-phosphor detectors (e.g. Electra and associated probes).

Electronic Personal Dosimeters

Personal dosimeters are calibrated in a 137Cs beam that is traceable to the Australian National Standard of Exposure. During calibration, a PMMA is used to simulate radiation backscatter from the human body. Some examples of personal electronic dosimeters calibrated by Radiation Professional are the Rados RAD-60, Isotrak Doseguard Plus and the Autonnic Model 12 DMC MGP 2000.
